McKenna Batterson
McKenna is a Chicago-based Writer and Author. She is a Scorpio-rising, a former theatre kid, and definitely a natural blonde.
And she loves one thing above all else — telling stories.
Combining her love of visceral language and macabre fantasy, McKenna has made it her mission to tell joyful and inclusive stories, often giving a voice to those who frequently go unheard.
Whether her stories take the form of poems, plays, or prose, she believes to her core that stories hold magic. A radiant and nourishing magic she deeply loves and seeks to capture in everything she writes.
After all, what are stories, if not magic made tangible?
McKenna Batterson is a Chicago native and graduate of Syracuse University where she received her BFA in Musical Theatre and concentration in Women & Gender Studies. She is a cross-genre author, playwright, and poet with a passion for stories that discuss the scary and uncomfortable topics of life — namely mental health, death, womanhood, and body image, often through the lens of LGBTQ+ characters. Her work has been published in Naked Cat Lit Magazine and Chicago Film Scene, while her stage work has been featured at the Off-Broadway Davenport Theatre in New York City and the Prop Thtr in Chicago. She recently completed her debut sapphic fantasy novel, The Sisters of Rot & Ruin, and she enjoys sharing her writing woes and wiles with her followers on TikTok.
